This is an erroneous prejudice, forgivable of course in the case of neophytes, but one that must be overcome in order to realize how much, on the contrary, codified forms of combat (Kumite) are a springboard for acquiring performance in free combat.
In any "traditional" Dojo, you will assiduously practice "Ippon Kumite", "Sanbon Kumite", "Jiyu Ippon Kumite", "Jiyu Kumite", etc., right up to "Shiaï" or refereed free assaults.
